Return of the Living Heads

I arrived after lunch today to the strangest collection of students outside my door.

I love it when students arrive at the door eager to get to work. When no one has to ask (with that standard nasally cadence) "what are we doing today?" Instead they show up and let me know what they are doing today.

I've put Art and Drama together before, but with the addition of Social Studies we now have a project with relevance, personality, and strange characters.

These students will spend the next hour telling the stories of ancient Athens as though they went to school there. They will do so by writing poetry and singing, dancing and chanting chorally, while pantomiming the crucial elements of the story... Language Arts connections anyone?

More importantly they will be engaged, differentiated, collaborative and creative because they want to be, NOT because they were told to.

Well, that's the continued hope anyway. I'm happy (as are they no doubt) that they don't have to do any of this for homework.
